St Nicholas' & St Luke's Church Deptford

Sunday Services

10.30am Morning Prayer / Holy Communion
Our principal service of the week takes place at St Nicholas' on Sunday mornings at 10.30. The current pattern of services is to celebrate Holy Communion on the first and third Sundays of the month, and to hold a service of Morning Prayer on the second, fourth and fifth Sundays. Our services have a "church family" feel about them: they are reverent, yet informal; all ages are encouraged to participate. We sing modern and traditional worship music accompanied by the organ or piano. What we lack as a congregation in musical polish, we make up for in vigour and spirit.

The teaching in the morning service is usually based on one bible reading, either taken from the lectionary or as part of a sermon series of our own design. We aim to understand the bible reading in its context and to explore what it means for us in South London in the 21st century. When the service is not All-Age our current pattern is to have a more “formal” sermon; when the service is All-Age we look for creative ways to engage and involve all.
For the last thirty years or so there has been a policy of admitting children to communion prior to confirmation, in accordance with the direction of the children's parents or carers. For this reason our services of Holy Communion are also our All-Age services.

Morning prayer is said at 9am on Friday at St Nicholas. This simple service uses the lectionary readings of the day and includes a time for intercessory prayer.

Saturday Morning Prayer Group
A small group meets every Saturday morning at 7am at St Nicholas'. The group meets to say Morning Prayer, following the lectionary readings, and is open to all who wish to come at this early time of day
